About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a background gyronny (meaning city rank) of yellow and green. The coat of arms is gules, before three wavy fesses argent, azure, argent, a castle or masoned sable and open vert, issuant from the ventral tower, a gauntlet argent holding a club or. Mural crown argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "TORRES NOVAS".

Presentation of Torres Novas

Torres Novas municipality had 37 400 inhabitants in 1990, and it is divided in 16 communes, covering 270 km2. It belongs to the Santarém District and to the old province of Ribatejo.
