It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms
centered on a plain white background. The coat of arms is purple, a castle
argent open sable charged with a St. James cross and between two crescents
or in chief issuant from a counterchief of sis wayvy fesses argent and vert.

rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters
"VILA DE SESIMBRA".

As usual, the castle stands for the local castle, the crescents for it’s
former moorish lordship, the cross for the Order of St.
James (Ordem de Santiago da Espada) and the wavy fesses for the
sea.

Sesimbra municipality had 27 970 inhabitants in 1990, and it is
divided in 2 communes, covering 195 km². It belongs to the
Setúbal District and to the old province of
Estremadura.
