Międzychód received the city rights in 1378 Within Prussia after the
second partition of Poland in 1793.
1920-39 - farthest west city of the Second Polish Republic: 4 km to
the border of the Third Reich.
Hermann Tietz, the founder of the German department store chain "Tietz"
& later "Hertie", was born in Birnbaum in 1837.
Arms and flag adopted on June 30, 2003 (resolution # IX/64/2003).
"Arms: on a silver (white) shield a green pear tree with seven gold
fruits and five roots.
Between the branches of the pear tree there is the town's defensive
wall (red) with three towers with black windows.
The shield is outlined in green.
Flag: rectangular piece of cloth in the ratio of 5:8 composed of three
equal horizontal bands: white-yellow-green. On the white and yellow bands
the Arms are placed centrally.
Color yellow corresponds to the color of pears and color green to the
color of the pear tree."
