Proszowice - urban-rural commune, Proszowice County, Małopolskie Voivodship.
Gmina Proszowice is an urban-rural gmina (commune) in Proszowice County, Lesser Poland Voivodship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the town of Proszowice,
which lies approximately 31 kilometres (19 mi) north-east of the regional capital Kraków.
Area: 99.78 sq.km (38.5 sq.mi); Population: 16,188 (2006).

City rights since1358 but mentioned already in 1222.
1655 - Swedish invasion - looting and destruction
1664 - War with Sweden - more looting and destruction
1702 - War with Sweden again - even more looting and destruction
1794 - Kosciuszko Insurrection
1795 - to Austria - Third Partition
1809 - included in Grand Duchy of Warsaw
1815 - included in (Russian) Congress Kingdom of Poland
1846 - Cracow Uprising - victorious battle with Russian Cossacks
1867 - Russians take the city rights away
1914 - on the Russian-Austrian frontline - more destruction
1918 - back in independent Poland
1923 - restoration of city rights
1939 - heavy fighting with Germans
2008 - celebrations of 600th Anniversary of cityhood.

Present Arms and brand new flag adopted on June 23, 2003 (resolution # VIII/53/03).
"Arms: on a red Spanish-style shield a golden plate on which the head of Saint John the Baptist is placed (eyes closed, beard and hair black, face - white)
Flag in the ratio 5:8 formed by two triangles, upper - white, lower - red, separated by the yellow stripe, in slant, running from the upper hoist corner to the lower fly corner. The yellow stripe should be of 1/5 of the width of the flag."
