Voivodship.
Gmina Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą is an urban-rural gmina (commune) in Grójec
County, Masovian Voivodship, in east-central Poland. Its seat is the town
of Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą, which lies approximately 34 kilometres (21 mi)
south-west of Grójec and 73 km (45 mi) south-west of Warsaw.
Area: 158.47 sq.km (61.2 sq.mi); Population: 8,280 (2006).
land under cultivation - 65%; forests - 22%.
Just to the west of town is a former military airfield. In the future
(2009-10) it will be converted into film studios (Pollywood).
On May 13, 1988, the town and its vicinity were struck by a rare tornado
- lot of damage - overturned bus with 9 people injured.
In September of the same year an exotic piranha fish was discovered
in Pilica River. Nobody knows if there is more of them still in the river,
lurking for prey.
Arms and flag adopted in 2003
"Arms: on a red shield a white tower with blue, peeked roof and open
gate with yellow doors.
On both sides of the tower there are silver swords with golden handles.
The right one's pointing up and the left one down.
Flag: of yellow and red colors divided diagonally by the blue stripe
ascending from the lower left corner to the upper right one.
The Arms are placed on the yellow field."
