Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 10.312; area: 64,97 km². Settlements: Marum (seat), Boerakker, De Wilp, Jonkersvaart, Lucaswolde, Niebert, Noordwijk, Nuis.
Marum is in southwest Groningen on the border with Fryslân, a mainly agricultural community.

The cloverleaves on the flag symbolize the agricultural character of the municipality, while the heart-like object, a waterlilyleaf (pompeblêd) refers to the Frisian influence.
