Biddinghuizen village

Biddinghuizen is a village in the municipality of Dronten, Flevoland province.

In January 2006 the village proudly announced that it had chosen a flag after a design contest, which produced 20 designs. The flag was designed by Ina Tolsma, with in the center the "old" village arms.
The designs are still present at this webpage.

That news was made public in the provincial media, after which the village of Marknesse in the same province accused the Biddinghuizers of having stolen their flag.
That was not quite true, as the flag as a whole was very different from the Marknesser flag - however the arms were quite alike - no wonder: it had been designed by someone who sold those arms to quite a few Flevoland villages.

The villagers of Marknesse and Biddinghuizen met and discussed the matter in an amicable way. It was agreed that the Marknesse arms were older, and that Biddinghuizen would look for something else for its flag.

On 29 April 2006 the Mayor of Dronten himself unveiled the new flag of the village of Biddinghuizen, again designed by Ina Tolsma (with the help of some friends). That day was the official "Koninginnedag" (Queen's Birthday), usually on 30 April, but now celebrated one day earlier.

Images of the flag, and even a video-presentation can by found on this website (browse in Nieuws)
It is evident that the new design is completely different.

Glorious! Hard to describe the flag - but it's very original.

There is a photo of the hoisting of the flag at this webpage.
At the fly, the flag seems "déja vu".... the flag of Mauritius maybe ;-)
Very nice flag, indeed!
