Municipal flag

The flag of Delft was adopted by the Municipal Council on 30 May 1996. It consists of three equal horizontal stripes white, black and white, which is like the arms rotated 90 degrees. The flag is already depicted on painting from the 17th century, but was used (also by the municipality itself) only unofficially. The reason for the official adoption was the fact that it had received its municipal rights 750 years ago in 1996 (1246). The request was made by the NVvV (Dutch Vexillological Association).
