Overview

Tirksliai (Mazeikiai District) - on a blue field a silver pale with 5 red hearts palewise. Flag proportions 5:6, free edges bordered with black and silver rope, finial is a silver knob with silver bands. The charge is related to the shrine in the centre of town: on three sides of it there are placed 5 red hearts. Two local legends exist about that shrine:
(1) it was built in 1667 by local landlady Vazinskiene in the memory of her son tortured by the Swedes;
(2) it is built by local landlord Vazinskis in the memory of his servant tortured by Swedes but who did not reveal the hiding place of the landlord's wife Vazinskiene and her 4 children.
But historians say the shrine was built in 1867 in memory of the uprising in 1863 and its insurgents. Anyway, these hearts symbolize love, courage and fidelity.
