Further details in English regarding Dongguk University can be found on its
web site. It is a multi-campus
institution with sites in Seoul and Gyeongju. Founded
in 1906, it was a center of the Buddhist revival in Korea and was closed
several times by the Japanese during their period of occupation. It was one of
the first Korean universities to be recognized as a university in the Western
sense, in 1953, and still remains a major center for Buddhist studies. In
addition to a modern medical school in the Western sense, it also offers
traditional training in traditional Korean medicine as well.
