Description of the flag

White stylized Katakana character of Ka (カ) of Kagawa on green field. Green is a colour of prefecture tree olive. Adoption year unknown.
Nozomi Kariyasu, 6 May 1998

According to http://www.pref.kagawa.jp/profile/kensho/, the symbol used on the flag was adopted on October 1, 1952 during the Showa (Hirohito's posthumous name) era. A specified color is supposed to be used on the symbol and the flag. In the case of the flag, the symbol is white and the background is an olive color under the (2 5G3.1/8.6 Mansell symbol JIS-Z-8721 (by the three attributes of color according to the law).

Former flag

Before the current prefectural flag, another flag was in semiofficial use for some time (c. 1975-1977?). Flagmaster reported it in blue but Nozomi Kariyasu has the information and flag was in fact green (seems to be a shade of green olive medium).
