Description of the flag

The blue stands for cleanness, freshness and intelligence and also represents international city of Osaka where people can have access from sky and sea. Osaka is called water city in Japan because it has a lot of rivers and faces two seas which blue colour also represents.

(1967 enactment)

The city flag uses a base of cobalt blue to highlight the central motif, the white hiragana character (hi ひ) from the word, Hirakata. The flag symbolizes the image of a bird flapping its wings in the sky.
