The city flag was adopted on May 29th 2003 by the Municipal Notice No 121. The blue flag is charged with the white city emblem in the center. The flag proportions are 2:3.

The blue stands for cleanliness, transparency, internationality and freedom such as sky and sea beyond eye distance. The city emblem is a stylized S of Shizuoka which represents the image of the rich city where a city function harmonized with nature. Mt.Fuji and waves of Suruga Bay symbolize a new city that makes a rapid progress and a civic rich living to spread out based upon energetic future, communication and solidarity.
