Shimada is written shima (island), da (rice field). The emblem represents this name, as 4 (shi) katakana ma are combined into a star shap signifying an island, with the kanji da forming a circle around it.

The dark green is given as "Mansel 5G3/4". (emblem | flag) (links in Japanese)
