Town of Yuzawa adopted its emblem/flag on 6 December 1965 by Regulation No 7 (link in Japanese)

The town emblem and flag were adopted to symbolise at town surrounded by beautiful nature, with townspeople working as one to increasingly rush ahead as a tourist city. Interestingly, the regulation describes the "ceremonial flag" first, and then describes the other version as for informal use.
