The International Democrat Union includes as members the Republican Party in the USA, the Conservative Party in the
UK, the Liberal Democratic Party in Japan and the Christian
Democratic Union in Germany. The European parties are also joined in
the EDU, i.e. European Democrat Union, and in the European Parliament
(the parliament of the European Union) they are gathered in the party
European People's Party - European Democrats (abbreviated EPP-ED).

"The International Democrat Union (IDU) is a working
association of over 80 Conservative, Christian Democrat and like-minded
political parties of the centre and centre right.
Our Mission
- The
International Democrat Union (IDU) shall consist of Member Parties of the
Americas Democrat Union (ADU); the Asia Pacific Democrat Union (APDU); the
Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU); the Democrat Union of Africa/African Dialogue
Group (DUA/ADG); and the European Democrat Union, which have adhered to the IDU
Declaration of Principles.
- The IDU will foster the common philosophy of its
Member Parties, establish permanent relations at a bilateral and multilateral
level, encourage mutual support and to these ends will provide a forum for the
exchange of views and information on matters of interest to all or a
considerable number of its Member Parties."
The current chairman of IDU
is John Howard (Liberal Party, Australia).

IDU is shown on the website of a local section of the French party UMP, member
of IDU:

emblem; however, on the flag, the white disk bordered in red forming the
background of the emblem is omitted.
