there is a publication of the tourist office including drawings
of the coat of arms of all the communities in the County (that
adopted coat of arms). For Dubrava there is shown a coat of arms
showing a deer springing on a green base in a blue shield. The [las39] showes such coat of arms for
Dubrava, claiming it to have been granted in 1636.
The place was once a fortres of the Zagreb church authorities,
known as place of the election of Ivan Zapolja (John Zapolya - in
Hunagrain known Janos Zápolya or Szapolyai) for the Croatian
king in 1526 on the Croatian parliament session there against
Ferdinanad Habsburg elected in Cetingrad in 1527.
It is not to be confuzed with an other Dubrava - a former
community in Zagreb (and a number of other places sharing the
same name).

The community of Dubrava is in the Zagreb County, southeast of
Vrbovec, some 50 km east of Zagreb (not to be confused with the former community of Dubrava of the
same name, that was part of the city of Zagreb). About 5,500
inhabitants, some 1,300 living in the place of the same name.
It is mentioned already in 1094 in a charter issued by king
Ladislaus, in the Middle Ages a fortification with 9 towers,
under the jurisdiction of the Zagreb bishops.
The parliament of Croatia was held there in 1527 electing John
Zapolya (Ivan Zapolja) for the Croatian king (opposed to the
Centingrad assembly of 1526/27 electng Ferdinand Habsburg for the
king, resulting in a long civil war until Zapolya's death in
1540, when Habsburgs prevailed).
The coat of arms of Dubrava is: auzre a deer
salient proper over a base vert.
This is based on a seal from 1636. The coloured version is shown
in the Laszowski's "Grbovi Jugoslavije" Coff Hag album.
The modern version is similar, but not entirely the same drawing
as in the Laszowski's book, and is shown on the community web site.
The flag is (barely) visible at a photo there.
My drawing of the flag is using the coat of arms from the
mentioned web site.

The new 2009 Statutes describe the coat of arms and the flag
as we know them above. Alas, the previous 2001 Statutes is not
