Overview

On <www.bistra.hr> there is now a document on adoption of the Coat of Arms and the flag: Odluka o donošenju grba i zastave (Opcine Bistra), 17.10.2002   Therefore the adoption date is 17 October 2002. The document identifies Heraldic-art d.o.o. of Rijeka as the author of the design.
The coat of arms of Bistra is: argent a book bound gules and gilded and clasped or ensigned with three apples of the last and in base six goutes des larmes, three, two and one. The book refers to the school tradition older then 150 years in Bistra. The apples are attributes of St. Nicolas, the patron o fthe community. The six blue drops are for the six settlements in the community, but also cant the name of the community that alludes to crystal-clear sources.
The flag is blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle. The ceremonial flag is a blue vertical gonfalon ending triangularly with golden fringe. Above the coat of arms is the name of the community and below are branches of oak and linden.
Bistra is a community in the Zagreb County, northwest of Zagreb. 6,000 inhabtants, 1,300 in the seat of the community which is the village named Donja Bistra. Bistra was part of city of Zagreb until 1995, when it gained status of a community. Bistra covers the norther slopes of the Zagreb Mountain (Medvednica) and the new ski terrains were arranged in the teritorry of Bistra to accommodate the ski cup and several other world ski competitions, putting Bistra on the world maps.
