Vir is a community in the Zadar County, on an island of the
same name in the northwest end of the county, connected with the
mainland with a bridge. It has less then 1,000 inhabitants, but
in the summer this number rises drastically when tourist
overwhelm the coast.
The Coat of Arms found Ivan Grbac somewhere on the Net in 2003.
The style of Heraldic-art is obvious (the design is identical to
the same charges in the arms of Tounj,
so there is a flag and a ceremonial flag to go with it, we
could be sure, but yet no info.
The coat of arms of Vir is: Azure a head of John the Baptist

Checking the latest official gazettes of the Zadar County at
<www.zadarska-zupanija.hr>,
I found some news in the recently adopted statutes of several
municipalities:
Vir: From the description in the Statutes we can present the flag
as well: Statut Opcine Vir, 04.02.2006, Slubeni glasnik
Zadarske upanije, br. 6/06, 07.04.2006.
The coat of arms of Vir is: azure a head of St. John Baptist
argent on a plate or. The Statutes claims that this is the
historical coat of arms of Vir (which I seriously doubt). The
Saint is locally known as Sveti Ivan Glavosjek and he is
the patron of Vir.
The flag is dark blue with the coat of arms bordered golden in
the middle.

The coat of arms design shown on the Heraldic-Art site differs in minor
details from my previous drawing (the size of the head, the inner
circular line of the plate).

The article in the newspapers
Slobodna Dalmacija of 27 August 2006 showes a (B/W) photo of
the ceremonial flag. The ceremonial flag is a dark blue gonfalon
ending triangulary with golden fringe, the coat of arms bordered
yellow in the middle, the name of the community in two arches
above and vine branches below.
The vine branches that I put on the image (from other ceremonial
flag designs made by Stojic, Heraldik-art, Rijeka) seems to be
somewhat little different from the actual branches in the
gonfalon, but for the lack of any clearer details then this
photo, this drawing shall have to do.
The design of the coat of arms with the "ceremonial"
details (vine branches and name above) was available at one point
on <www.vir.hr> (now
defunct).
