Overview

Sukošan is a community some 10 km south of Zadar along the coast, with about 4,500 inhabitants. Together with the norther neighbouring community of Bibinje, it maintains a huge yacht marina for which is probably most famous (even world wide).
The Coat of Arms of Sukošan is: azure a hand issunat from sinister clead or holding a feather argent in bend sinister and in canton an anchor also or. Drawing based on a rather small picture at Tourist office Sukošan site <www.tzo-sukosan.hr>.
I have not noticed flag used in Sukašan last years, but that surely does not mean that there is no one. Au contraire, I believe that there would be one adopted together with the Coat of Arms, as it is usual in Croatia.

In the mean time Tomislav Šipek informed me on the flag used: yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Coat of Arms and flag were designed by Heraldic Art d.o.o from Rijeka and approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central State Office for Administration before 2006.

The community web site includes the decision on the Coat of Arms and the flag adopted on 8 April 1999 Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opcine Sukošan, 08.04.1999, Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, br. ?/99.
The Coat of Arms and the flag are also described in the new Statutes of 2009: Statut Opcine Sukošan, 06.07.2009, Službeni glasnik Opcine Sukošan, br. ?/09.
The amovementioned decision provides us with the clues on the symbolism. The hand with the feather is attribute of St. Cassian of Imola, the patron and namesake of the community. The anchor refers to the name of the bay Zlatna Luka (Italian: Porto d'Oro - Golden Harbour), today being the largest marina on Croatian coast.
The ceremonial flag is also described - a yellow gonfalon with three tails ending with fringes, the coat of arms in the centre of it, the name of the community in arches above and branches of vine and olive tree below.
