Privlaka is a community in the Zadar County, 30 km northwest
of Zadar along the coast line, at the
northermost point of the large peninsula of Ravni Kotari (the
Zadar region). 2'200 inhabitants all in the single settlement of
the same name. The historical traces document prescence of the
Librnes here in pre-Roman times. Privlaka (kod Zadra) is not to
be confuzed with Privlaka (kod Vinkovaca) in the Vukovar-Srijem
County.
Checking the latest official gazettes of the Zadar County at <www.zadarska-zupanija.hr>,
I found some news in the recently adopted statutes of several
municipalities:
Privlaka: Statut Opcine Privlaka, 27.01.2006, Slubeni
glasnik Zadarske upanije, br. 3/06, 01.02.2006.
The newly adopted Statutes include the desription of the coat of
arms and the flag that must have been adopted a few years prior
to it, I estimate around 2002. The coat of arms of Privlaka is:
azure a seahorse argent. A seahorse or hippocampus is a symbol of
marine possition of Privlaka. The flag is yellow with the coat of
arms in the middle.
The coat of arms is shown on the web site of the tourist office
of Privlaka: Turisticka
zajednica Opcine Privlaka,15.08.2006. There is also shown a
version of it as anymated funny cartoon you may wish to check.
I based my drawing on a larger image of the coat of arms
available at wikipedia.

Unlike the 2006 Statutes, the 2009
Statutes (Statut Opcine Privlaka, 09.07.2009, Slubeni
glasnik Zadarske upanije, br. 14/2009, 16.07.2009) do not
include the description of the symbols in the Article 4, only
claiming that the community "has its symbols" and
explaining that the Community Assembly "shall adopt their
description by a statutory decision."
The community mayor informed me that they noticed the omission in
the Statutes, and they are preparing an amendment to add it, just
as it was in the previous statutes.
The fact that the community is having the coat of arms, seems to
be clear from an other
act (Statut Artic d.o.o. za komunalne djelatnosti (Privlaka),
16.09.2009, Slubeni glasnik Zadarske upanije, br.
19/2009, 16.07.2009) issued in September 2009, the statutes of a
local communal service company, where in Art. 5 is determined
that the company seal includes in its centre the coat of arms of
the Community of Privlaka.
One should also note for curiosity the web site of the Tourist Board
of Privlaka, where the sea-horse of the coat of arms is
humorously wearing different hats - a basball cap, a traditional
straw hat...
