The coat of arms of Varazdin is Barry of Eight Gules and
Argent overall issuant from base a Tower Argent between a Mullet
and a Crescent incerscent both Or was already in use when it
was confirmed by king Mathias Corvin in 1464. The traditional
flag of five red and white stripes is in use at least since
mid-XIX century, and is derived from the barry arms. The modern
city of Varazdin probably confirmed those symbols and adopted a
decision on their use, but it is unknown. In any case, both the
flag and the coat of arms are in everyday use. The city of
Varazdin was the capital of Croatia in 1756-1776, afterwards
Zagreb takes up the role. Due to its highes development in time
of baroque, the city is also known as the baroque city.
Population: 48,800 (Zemljopisni atlas Republike

The coat of arms is not used officially any more (though it is
used still sometimes, being the same Historical
Coat of Arms). The official representation of the coat of
arms is taken from the original grant of arms from 1464, granted
by King Matias Corvin, as was usual at the time combining
together the seal and the coat of arms: Within a green square
frame there is a smaller red square with golden-yellow ornaments
within which is inscribed circular ribbon inscribed: SIGILLVM
MAIVS CIVITATIS WARASDIENSIS. Within the ribbon on partially
green and patrially blue ornamented background there is an angel
guardant with golden-yellow hair with red wings and clead in
brown. The angel holds in his hands semicircular shield with four
red and four white bars. In the center of the shield there is a
square tower with entrance and windows and four smaller towers at
the top and gray-blue tall pointed roof ending with a
golden-yellow cross. On the third red bar is on the right a
yellow six-pointed star and on the left a yellow crescent
