Jarmina is a community in the Vukovar and Srijem County, 25 km
south- west of Vukovar, about 2,600
all living in the the single village in the community having the
same name. The history of Jarmina is kind of typical for Slavoian
villages. In the medieval times it was known as Jarmina Sv.
Nikola (or in Hungarian form Jaromna Szent Miklos). After the
liberation from Turks in 1700 the village was setteled by first
by Serbs from Bosnia but when they did not stay, by Croats from
the Lika region. Soon also Czechs and Slovaks were setteled as
well. However, the owners of the land decided in 1770 to move
them out and to settle Germans there. These Germans were exiled
by the end of the World War II and the Croats from the Zagorje
region were setteled in several waves. Today the village is over
98 Croat by population. It was heavily damaged during the
Homeland war being just outside the lines of what Serbs held in
easter parts of Slavonia.
The Coat of Arms is shown on the web site of the community at
<www.jarmina.hr>. I
don't know what is its status, by my judgement it is just on the
edge of what the central authorities migh accept: per bend wavy
or divided into azure and vert and in the last an apple with a
leaf and a bunch of grapes slipped all or. The emblems on the
Coat of Arms refer to the richness of the agriculture. Possibly
the apple is also hint on St. Nicolas, especially if there may be
connection of the grapes with St. Wendalinus (Sv. Vendelin), the
other parton saint of the community.
No info on the flag.
