Virovitica is a city with about 23,000 inhabitantsn (16,000 in the urban area itself) in northwestern part of Slavonia. Much important histoprically, it has lost much of its influence in modern time, but even though the counyt formed in nothern Slavonia after the liberation of from Turks was named after it, even if the capital was already set to Osijek.

The City also has nice updated web pages, where, among other things provide vectorized images of the city coat of arms.
The web site also includes the official gazette, where a decision on the use of the arms was granted to the local fire-fighters: Odluka o odobrenju uporabe grba Grada Virovitice DVD Korija, 5. veljace 2008, Službeni vjesnik Grada Virovitice, br. 2/08, 5. veljace 2008.
The mentioned decision refers to the decision adopting the coat of arms and the flag: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Virovitice, Službeni vjesnik Grada Virovitice, br. 9/04.
The Statutes of the city of 2006 includes the descrption of the coat of arms and the flag in its article 4.
However, there is one thing that should be mentioned about the coat of arms (and then also of the flag) of Virovitica - the coat of arms is, apparently, regularly shown with the golden sabre while the Statutes (and presumably also the 2004 decision) clearly states that the sabre that the lion holds should be silver. The golden sabre is also shown in the mentioned vectorized image.
I believe that this is only an error without any meaning and that the sabre should indeed be silver, only nobody noticed the error so it propagated for a long time (a decade or so).
