Dicmo is a community in the Split and Dalmatia County, some 10
km NE of Split, about the half way
between Split and Sinj. The seat of
the community administration is in the largest village named
Kraj, Dicmo being the name of the carst valley in the region an
no actual settlement bears the name of the community. The
community consists of 7 villages each counting between 150 and
650 inhabitants, all together over 26,00 inhabitants in Dicmo. The
name comes from Latin decimus (ten), being at the tenth
milestone of the ancient Roman road from Split inwards. Also as a
curriosity, two of the villages are jointly named Upper Dicmo,
even though they are downstream in the Dicmo field from the Lower
Dicmo of 5 remaining villages - the illogical name comes from the
time of the Venetian rule since 1699 - when they named Upper
Dicmo those parts that remained under Ottoman rule.
Virtually no firm info on the symbols of Dicmo, but at the web
site at <www.blog.hr>
one may see photos from the community hall, where obviously some
kind of a Coat of Arms and flag are used. It is hard to say that
exactly is there, but it seems to be a regular triangular shield
of: azure a church or within a border of the same (or at least
this may be interpreted so - the border is of the "old
gold" colour and has some horizontal hatching...).
The flag (if that is the community flag) is blue, and even if it
is not visible, the Coat of Arms must be there, probably in the
middle of it.
The church shown in the Coat of Arms seems to be the parish
Church of St. Jacob in Dicmo (see <www.destinacije.com>).
