Kijevo is a community in the ibenik-Knin County, 50 km
north-east of ibenik. The
Croats formed a community (upa) in Kijevo as soon as they
reached the regions, as it is mentioned already in 777 within the
Livno County. Today it is a small village with about 1,200
inhabitants, and most of the inhabitant of the community lives in
there.
The Coat of Arms of Kijevo is azure a ruined
church or. It is the church of St. Salvator (Sv. Spas),
originating from 9th century, with the oldest remaining belfry in
Croatia vitnessing the Frankish influence on the christianization
of Croats.
Almost identical coat of arms picturing the same church (gules a
ruined church argent masoned sable) was used by neighbouting city
of Vrlika (in the Split-Dalmatia County). I suppose that the
church was on its territory earlier ad in some territorial reform
was given to Kistanje, but I may be wrong. as it appears Vrlika
does not use the coat of arms any more, which may indicate that
my assumptions may be right.
The flag is red with yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle.
There is also a Ceremonial Flag in form of red
golfanon with three tails, the middle one longer, all three
ending triangulary and all containing yellow floral ornament and
fringe along bottom. The coat of arms is in the middle and the
name of the community above it in two arhces.

Updates from the official gazette:
- Statut Opcine Kijevo, 01.08.2001, Slubeni vjesnik
ibensko-kninske upanije, br. 8/01, 14.08.2001.- The
statutes include the description of the coat of arms and the flag
of the community, though these might have been adopted earlier
(although it is not mentioned earlier in the official gazettes).
The curch is named to be the church of St. Salvador (Sv. Spas),
as we know. Unlike we know it, the flag is described to be light
blue with the coat of arms bordered golden in the middle. The
ceremonial flag is described as dark blue with the coat of arms
in the middle, the name of the community above and below in the
tails ornaments of oak, vine and fig. Oddly, this matches
perfectly with the drawing from the web site we have, but there
the flag is red. Could it have been changed, or there is an error
on the site? For the memoent I have no explanation.
- Statut Opcine Kijevo, 13.03.2006, Slubeni vjesnik
ibensko-kninske upanije, br. 5/06, 05.04.2006. - The
new statutes repeats the determinations of the previous one in
slightly different wording (but not in regrad of the description
of the coat of arms and the flag). However, there is a notable
difference: the church in the coat of arms that was described
yellow-golden in 2001 is now described as yellow-green! I believe
that this is only an error in typing, it does not make much sence
otherwise.
