Overview

Velika Kopanica is a community in the Slavonski Brod and Posavina County, some 40 km east of Slavonski Brod. Somewhat over 3,500 inhabitants.
The coat of arms of Velika Kopanica is: Or a chariot wheel argent inflamed gules. The inflamed chariot wheel refers to St. Elias, usually pictured as riding in an inflamed chariot, the patron of the community. The flag is most probably also adopted, but I have no info as yet.

Design: Heraldic Art d.o.o. from Rijeka. The design was approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central State Office for Administartion some time before 2006.

As reported in the Bible, 2 Kings, Chapter 2:
"1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
[...]
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
[...]
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both assunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried: 'My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!' And he saw him no more; and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces."

While checking the county gazette I located a relevant decisions:
- Statut opcine Velika Kopanica, 15.07.2009, Sluzbeni vjesnik Brodsko-Posavske zupanije, br. 9/2009, 23.07.2009, pp. 1097-1113.
The coat of arms and the flag are described in the statutes, coat of arms as we already know it - or a rotating wheel argent inflamed gules. The flag is described green with the coat of arms bordered golden in the centre of it. However, the actually flag that was shown in use on Croatian TV in March 2009 - the coat of arms was reportedly bordered white - is it an error in flag spotting or something more, I can not say for the moment.
- Odluka o donoenju grba i zastave opcine Velika Kopanica, 08.04.2008, Sluzbeni vjesnik Brodsko-Posavske zupanije, br. 6/2008, 06.05.2008, pp. 678-679.
This is the decision on the adoption of the symbols on 8 April 2008. The descriptions are, of course, the same as in the statutes above. No mention of the ceremonial flag here either.

It seems that the white brdered coat of arms flag is used by the communty, see e.g. here and also here. However, on the same site one may also found the community 2009 Statutes, clearly describing the yellow border around the coat of arms.
