Overview

Cernik is a community in the Brod-Posavina County under the Psunj mountain, due north of Nova Gradiska, some 60 km west of Slavonski Brod. It has somewhat less the 5,000 inhabitants, some 2000 living in the main settlement of the community. (It is, of course, not the same as the place of the same name in the Cavle Community, near Rijeka.)
According to Tihomir Podkornjak, the webmaster of  <www.cernik.web1000.com> the symbols were adopted in 17 October 2002. Before that an unofficial shield-like emblem was used, still appearing at the site above.
The coat of arms is azure an acorn and in chief two keys in saltire with the wards down outwards all or.
The keys refer to St. Peter, the patron of the parish, and the acorn is canting since the name of the place is derived from the archaic word cer meaning oak. The flag is light blue with the coat of arms in the middle bordered goden.
The ceremonial flag is dark blue with the coat of arms in the middle, the name of the community in two arcs above and three triangularly ending tails containing ornaments of the oak branches.

Apparently, in the mean time, for some reason the community decided to adopt an other design, differing from the previous in that it depicts two acorns instead of one.
The wbesite Cernik Onile (also maintained by Tomislav Podkornjakm who provided info on 2002 design) incudes the drawings of the new design (including the vectorial drawing of the coat of arms), but also drawings of previosu single-acorn design and the even older pre-2002 coat of arms (see <cernik.atspace.com> and click on drawings).
The coat of arms of Cernik is now: azure two acorns and in chief two keys in saltire with the wards down outwards all or.
The flag is (most probably) dark blue with the coat of arms in the middle bordered yellow.
The ceremonial flag is probably also adopted, no info so far, however Heraldic Art materials include the photo of the table flag: dark blue with the coat of arms in the middle, the name of the community in two arcs above and two coloured oak branches below it.
The embem used by Cernik before 2002 was blue shiled with white castle on a white fringed golden mount containing eight-pointed voided white star, in the red chief dexter white fringed golden enbowed bend with a blue marten.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. from Rijeka.
