Omialj is a communiyl around a small coastal town in
northern part of Krk Island with 2700 inhabitants. The Rijeka
airport on Krk, the oil and gas terminal port and a oil rafinery
are garants of the community future, but tourism is not
underdeveloped either. The Coat of Arms adopted around 1995
is Gules, a tower embatteled argent issuant from a base azure and
in chief a mullet or. The flag is white with the coat of arms in
the middle.

The decision was adopted in May 1995: Odluka o grbu i zastavi
Opcine Omialj, 04.05.1995, Slubene novine
upanije primorsko-goranske, br. 9/95, 8. svibnja 1995.
The flag is white with the coat of arms bordered golden in the
middle.
The ceremonial flag is not prescribed, but a table flag is in use
that might be representative of what the ceremonial flag might
look like. The photo of the table flag was sent to me by Rober
grubisa some weeks ago. It is vertically hoisted, white bordered
golden, with the coat of arms on a golden cartouche and a ribbom
below bearing the name of the community OPCINA OMIALJ and
an other ribbon above written Omialj in Glagolitic
characters. As we already know the island Krk, on which
Omialj is, was the important center of the Croatian
Glagolitic litteracy.
On a side note - the Glagolitic letters are nowdays not known
(readable) by the general population in Croatia, even if there is
a number of people that maintains the tradition. They are rarely
used, in specially solemn occasions, usually for short
inscriptions (epitaphs and like on monuments etc.) Their use on
the ceremonial flag is indeed quite appropriate - the ceremonial
flag is supposed to be the most solemn symbol of a local
community.

The symbols were designed by the Heralid
Art d.o.o company in Rijeka.

The 2009 Statutes repeats the 2001 prescriptions describing
the coat of arms and the flag. The previous 1993 Statutes do not
include their description.
