Overview

Lopar is a community in the Coast and Gorski Kotar County, established in 2006 by secession from the city of Rab. It is the actual birth place of St. Marin, known as the founder of the Republic of San Marino (the city of Rab is claiming the same thing, being the closes city to the place, both claims being probably equally valid).
As I was informed by our regular reporter from Rijeka, Robert Grubiša, the Rijeka newspapers Novi list issued an article on 7 September 2008 on a ceremonial session of the community assembly marking the Day of the Community, 8th September.
On the session the coat of arms and the flag of the community were publicly revealed. A photo was also shown in the newspaper, but way too small to be of any use.
The text of the article states (my translation): "The coat of arms depicts St. Marin, the founder of the oldest republic in the World, San Marino, with his stone-masonry tools (probably a chisel and a hammer?, ZH) and two silver-white flowers symbolizing the widely known tomatos and potatos of Lopar."
The accompanying photo seems to show also the flag in the background, being light blue with (presumably) the coat of arms in the middle.
I have been checking the official gazette of the County, where the decision on the coat of arms and the flag should be published, but nothing in this regard was issued yet (it shall probably follow).
The web site of the community is at <www.opcina-lopar.hr> but contains yet no info on the new symbols.

Now, there are two sites showing rather interesting images:
The community of Lopar's website: Coat of arms drawing. The text clearly states that it should be dark blue, as it is shown elsewhere as well. See also photo with the flag in use.
The tourist board of the community of Lopar's website: Local magazine, with the story on the adoption of the symbols on page 32, including beautiful drawing of the ceremonial flag. I think this is one of the best creations of Heraldic Art for the ceremonial flags.
