Overview

Buzet is a city in the Istria County, 20 km north of Pazin, in the region of Istria furthest from the sea coast. Population 6,500, but only about 500 living in the city itself, the largest settlement being Funtana in the valley below Buzet. The distance from sea means also distance from the Italian influence, so the Italian name of the city is but rarely used: Pinguente.   The information on Buzet is from the city official web site at <www.buzet.hr> and many other sources showing the same "Coat of Arms". The emblem used as the coat of arms of Buzet pictures the city gates and a well within a cartouche including the oak and vine ornaments. I believe it must have been adopted in 1980's. As the photo of the the city assembly building on the mentioned web site showes the emblem is set in the middle of a red flag. If this is done after some decision or entirely unofficially, it is yet to be seen.

This seems to have been an error in judgment and by looking better and having an other photo there showing the flag more clearly (see here), the flag is white over red bicolour with the emblem ("coat of arms") set in the canton. I still think that this is used quite unofficially (i.e. without approval from the central Ministry), but I may be wrong.
