Overview

Trnava is a community in the Osijek and Baranja County, about 55 km south-west from Osjiek, west of Djakovo. Totaling about 1,900 inhabitants in 6 villages, the main village of the same name has about 700 inhabitants, mostly Croats, with just under 10% of Serbs. The main production is vine.
The coat of arms of Trnava is: ules a bunch of grapes or with two leaves vert in a chalice argent on a mount vert.
The chalice represent the "presence of diocese" in the region (the vine production was mainly for the use of the nearby Dakovo diocese), while the grapes symbolise the viticulture. The coat of arms is vaguely based on the previously used, unapproved coat of arms.
The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the centre.
The ceremonial flag is white gonfalon bordered golden, ending triangularly with golden fringe along the bottom, with the coat of arms bordered golden in centre, the golden inscription of the community name above it in an arch and a line, and with two green vine the brances with yellow bunches of grapes below.
The symbols were adopted on 13 July 2007, and are probably designed by the Rijeka company Heraldic Art (to be confirmed).
Prior to the adoption of these symbols, since 1995, the community used different ones, that were not approved by the Central state office for administration for lack of conformance with the heraldic tradition. The coat of arms was in a red shield with a green double mount, forming with the pointing end of the shield in the base a green heart shape. From the heart is issuing a white cross from which is issuing a semi-sun with eight rays. In the base of the green part are: a red bunch of grapes in the centre, two yellow wheat ears in dexter and an golden oak leaf with three acorns in sinister.
The flag that accompanied this coat of arms was a bicolour of yellow over green with the coat of arms in the centre, in overall ratio 2:3.
The 2001 Statutes include the description of these symbols (in the Article 4) and quote the decision on the coat of arms and the flag from 1995 (invalidating its articles 2 and 3). In March 2006, the community issued a conclusion to start the initiative for the new symbols and soon followed with the change of statutes removing the description of unapproved symbols. In 2007 the new symbols were adopted. The official gazettes on the community web site include large depictions of the both coat of arms (i.e. one until 2007, and the other after that).
