Overview

Popovac is a community in the Osijek-Baranja County, in Baranja region, some 30 north of Osjiek. Population around 2,500 in three settlements, some 1,100 in the village of the same name, the others in two other villages of the community (Kneževo, Branjina), includes somewhat over 20% of Serbs and somewhat less then 5% of Hungarians (who name the place Baranyabán) and 1.7% of Slovenians. During the Homeland War the community, as the rest of Baranja region, was held by rebels until 1997, when it was peacefully reintegrated to Croatia.
The web site of the community displays what appears to be recently designed coat of arms.
