Overview

Levanjska Varoš is a community in the Osijek-Baranja County, some 50 km south-west of Osjiek, 15 km west of Šakovo, about 1,250 inhabitants, some 350 in the village of the same name, somewhat over 15% of Serbs. From the Roman times known as Leuconum and in the Middle Ages as Nevna under the rule of the Czech de Leva family in 15th century. Rich hunting areas are important for the local economy even today, while sulphur rich curative springs are known for a long time. These two characteristics that makes the community known are illustrated on the newly adopted symbols.
The symbols were adopted by a decision of 18 March 2009: Odluka o grbu i zastave Opcine Levanjska Varoš, 18.03.2009, Službeni glasnik Opcine Levanjska Varoš, br. ?/2009 and approved by an act of teh Central state office for administartion on 24 April 2009: Rješenje Središnjeg državnog ureda za upravu, Klasa: UP/I-017-01/09-01/25, Urbroj: 515-09-02-09-3, 24.04.2009 as I was informed from a correspondence with the community. They also kindly sent me printed drawings of the COA, flag, ceremonial and table flag. The design seems linke it may be done by the Heraldic Art of Rijeka, but this is nowhere metioned in the documents I got from the community.
The coat of arms of is: vert a stag head or afrontee ensigned with a stone well sprinkling water argent.
The flag is green with the coat of arms bordered yellow in the centre of it.
The ceremonial flag is a light yellow gonfalon ending with three triangularly ending tails, with the coat of arms in the centre of it, the name of the community in an arch and two lines in green above and green oak ornaments with yellow oaks in the tails.
A similar table flag is used, green with triangular fly, yellow border and inscriptions and two oak branches.
