Fortifications of the old city of Korcula are shown in symbolic

Mark.

In a tourist
website (located by Ron Lahav) there is the historical seal of the
city. Unfortunately, no hint on the date of this seal, which I
estimate to be from the 14th cnetury.
No doubt that this seal served as the basis of the adoption of
the modern coat of arms in the 1990's .

I mention the old seal of the city on which the modern coat of
arms must have been based. In Laszowski 1930's Kava Hag album
"Grbovi Jugoslavije" the coat of arma is given is
somewhat different shape, but obviously based on that seal -
while for the seal it is only mentioned that it is
"medieval" without any more precise dating. Laszowski
also mentioned that the coat of arma was granted in 1898. The
Kava Hag drawing is shown scanned (quite "errorneously"
captioned as GNU Free and Creative Commons GFDL licence!) at wikipedia.
It may be interesting that Laszowski identifies the saint as St.
Nicolas. However, I believe that is his error.
Namely, H. G. Stroehl in his "Staedte-Wappen v. Oe-U",
1904 shows the coat of arms basically the same as Laszoski except
for the shield shape (Stroehl have all shields in square-shield
shape, while Laszowski have them all in semi-circular shape),
identifying the saint as St. Markus. He notes: "Die
Wappenbild wurde am 17. August 1898 Curzola verliechen." -
which means, if I am not mistaken, that the coat of arms drawing
was granted to Korcula on the mentioned date. I guess that
Stroehl is here qite precise in his expression - that it was not
the coat of arms that was granted - that must have been
considered to have been in use for quite some time - but only a
new drawing of "the ancient coat of arms".
