Overview

The community of Strahoninec was formed in 1997 secedeing from the city of Cakovec. It is situated due south of Cakovec and it is its suburb. Strahoninec has about 2,600 inhabitants and probably few hunderds more in surrounding villages.
The article in the local newspapers at <www.mnovine.hr> describes who the flag and the coat of arms are adopted on the previous day (11.11.2003): "Dobili grb, zastavu i dva nova vjecnika", Medimurske novine, br. 427, 12.11.2003.
The coat of arms of Strahoninec is gules a whip embowed-counterembowed or and in base a stump eradicated also or.
The whip alludes to the name of the community having the root in the word meaning 'fear' ('strah'), and the whip's shape forms the shape of the initial letter S.
The flag is light blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle. Quite probably there might be a ceremonial flag, too.

The ceremonial flag of the Municipality of Strahoninec in Medjimurska county, Croatia, is now available in its website at <www.strahoninec.hr>.
Valentin Poposki, 20 August 2006

Strahoninec adopted its symbols in 2003 according to the news article from another newspapers from Medimurje. The article was quite definitive in its wording and there was no doubt at the time that the images shown together with it as well as the description in the text might be inccorect or doubtfull. However, just a few days ago (by the link Valentin provided, but also from a description in the official gazette I located almost in the same time), it is revealed that the finally adopted version the colours are inverted - the blue flag with red coat of arms that was reportedly aodpted in November 2003 is wrong! It seems that the flag that was finally adopted is red with the light blue coat of arms with the same elements as reported but with slightly different artistic design (or is it only that the previous drawings from which we worked were of bad quality so details were not visible?). Anyway, I hope to get some feedback from Strahoninec...
In the mean time, a short note at the very end of the article at <www.medjimurje.com>: "Predstavljen pristorni plan", Medimurje, županijske novine, br. 2559, 11.05.2004. in the frame titled "21. svibnja - Dan Strahoninca", explains how on 21 May 2005 the day of the community shall be celebrated, among other activities the promotion of the community flag shall be done.

Coat of Arms and flag were designed by Heraldic Art d.o.o from Rijeka and approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central State Office for Administration before 2006.
