Yacht Club de France was established in 1867, and the
French Navy allowed the club to use a special ensign with a 5-pointed
white star in the center of the blue field of the tricolor. The
burgee had the same design.
In 1891, a new club was founded, the Union des Yachts Francais,
Société d'Encouragement pour la Navigation de
Plaisance. They were granted by the Navy a special ensign with a
5-pointed blue star in the center of the white field of the
tricolor.
Both clubs merged and were recognized as one club by the
International Yacht Racing Union in 1907. Their clubhouse is
located 6, Rue Galilée in Paris.
The special ensign is the sum of both ensigns of former clubs, like
the burgee.
