Presentation of the municipality

Molsheim is a city of ca. 7,000 inhabitants.
The toponym Mollesheim appeared for the first time in a document dated from 820. A possible origin of the name is related to Latin mola, millstone and by extension the mill (French, moulin) itself. Molsheim would therefore mean 'the place near the mill'.
Ettore Bugatti (1881-1947) established in Molsheim his famous automobile and railcar factory. The Messier-Hispano-Bugatti company is now manufacturing in Molsheim airplane undercarriages.
