Bureau Veritas was created in 1828 (in 1892 changed to the current name) as a Belgian civil sea shiping classification society. It is currently an international certification agency seated in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, France.

One of the international norms that this company issues certification for is ISO 9001 (quality management systems) and certificatied entities use
i.a. a flag to make public that they are ISO 9001 compliant.
This flag is with apparent proportions 2:3, horizontally divided white-red-white (approx. 3:7:3); on the fly side, over all, the company logo
in black and white, and the white lettering "ISO 9001 BUREAU VERITAS
Certification" in three lines, set in a sans-serif face, on the red area
by the hoist.
It is safe to speculate that conformity with other such
standards (namely ISO 14001) as certified by this company is signaled by
similar flags with other color replacing red.
