Introduction

The science fiction short story The Monsters of Morgan Island by Sandra McDonald was published (at least) in the June 2009 issue of Asimov’s Science Fiction, a U.S. magazine. It tells an uncertain, probably onirical account of the quarry of Morgan Island (Lake Erie, probably US), where captured “monsters” was cast into. One of the possible outcomes is the “monsters” being able to overcome their captivity and take over the island, first, then some coastal towns or even the whole world.

These “monsters” are not clearly identified in the text, but seem to be human, not extraterrestiral alien, war prisoners. See also here.

Conquered towns show their allegiance to the “monsters” by flying black flags.
