Description

The flag of La Victoria de Acentejo is green with a white triangle. The base of the triangle fills the complete hoist and its sharp point touches the centre of the fly end. The flag's ratio is 2:3, according to BOC No. 162 from 19 August 2005 p. 16345, where you can see an image of the flag. In the centre of the flag is the coat of arms. I have to give very special thanks to Sr. Gabriel Pérez from the local municipality who made it possible for me to look into Heraldica Institucional de Canarias.

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms is a shield divided per pale. On the right side is a green pine tree in a silver (white) field. On the left side in a red field is a sword crossed by a Guanche stick both superimposed by a branch of olive tree. All objects are silver (white). The shield is topped by a crown.

Escudo partido; primero, de plata, el pino de sinople; segundo, de gules, una espada de plata encabada de oro y un "banot" guanche, colocados en aspa y cargados, en situación de palo, de una rama de olivo de plata. Al timbre Corona real cerrada.

  • The pine represents the history of the village: on 25 December 1495, a service was held here after the battle between Castilians and Guanches. Arriving at this place, Don Alfonso Fernández de LUGO ordered to build a hermitage to adore the Virgin of La Victoria. The pine was for many years used as a clock tower.
  • Sword and stick symbolize the parties of Castilians and Guanches, which faced one another in the cruel battle.
  • The branch of the olive tree however stands for the peace coming after the battle.

The coat of arms was granted by decree of 16 March 1987 and was published in BOC No.37 on 27 March 1987.
