  • The axes are taken from the coat of arms of Sebastián Machado, the founder of a rather primitive urban settlement at the beginning of the 17th century.
  • The crown (only a coronet) reminds of the fact that Tacoronte was capital of one of the nine mini-kingdoms (called "menceyatos") that had been established on Tenerife in times of the Guanches.
  • The word "Tacoronte" is the Spanish transmogrification of the Guanche word "Tagoro," being on top of the bordure. The meaning of that word (also known as "tagoror") is a council of elders, helping the local mencey (king).
  • The vine leaves are an allusion to the successful production of vines in that region.
The coat of arms was established by decree 509/1976 on 26 February 1976, published in BOE on 18 March 1976.
