Introduction

There doesn't exist any village called "El Rosario;" the biggest village of the municipality is "La Esperanza". The municipality is located south of San Cristobal de La Laguna.

Description

El Rosario's flag is white over green divided per bend with the coat of arms in its centre. I spotted this flag on 30 January in Military Museum Sta. Cruz d.T.

The flag is divided per bend. This could be se back side. In BOC it is recommended to show the coat of arms on both sides. (Here I also chose the – probably official – tinctures of José Manuel Erbez. Only the tincture of the sinister chief background (mint green) in Sta. Cruz Military Museum was different, but it was also a flag divided per bend)

Flag adopted in 1999.

Description of coat of arms: shield divided per chevron. The base is much smaller than the chief. On the base is a lying golden (yellow) anchor in a blue field. The chief is divided per pale. On its right side are five red roses (two over one over two) in a golden (yellow) field. On its left side is a dark green pine in a mint-green field. The shield has a dark green border with a golden bar on each side. The shield is topped by a coronet.

  • The five roses symbolize the five mysteries of St. Rosario, who gave the municipality its name.
  • There are large forests of pine trees around La Esperanza.
  • The anchor for Christians is a symbol of hope ("esperanza"), which is the capital of the municipality.
  • The rectangles refer to a "game of pales," played even by the aborigines and also today.
The coat of arms was established per decree of the Cabinet Council (of Spain?) on 5 November 1964, published in BOE on 21 November 1964.
