Seen by José Manuel Erbez recently at the Arafo town hall, it is a very dark red flag with the coat of arms in its centre, with a garland and lyre added beneath the shield. The garland and the lyre obviously must have been added within the last years, or at least must not have been used previously.

The shield is divided per fess. The chief shows a flaming red heart upon a golden crozier, which lies on a closed blue book. The heart is pierced by a golden arrow, all in a golden (yellow) field. The base is simply a red field divided by a broad silver (white) bend. The shield has a green border with the golden inscription "AÑAVINGO" on its top and a golden cluster wine grapes on left and right sides. The shield is topped by a coronet.

  • The charge in the upper half is the coat of arms of the Ordo Sancti Augustini, the monastic order of St. Augustine, which had a convent within the boundaries of the municipality.
  • The charge in the lower half is the coat of arms of the Núñez family, the founders of the municipality.
  • The grapes symbolize viticulture on the soil of Arafo. Añavingo is the name of a gorge supplying the inhabitants with water.
  • The lyre is an alusion to the musical traditions of the village.
The coat of arms was established by decree 599/1975 on 13 March 1975.
