Description

The municipality of Puento del Congosto, located near Salamanca, has now a flag and coat of arms, designed by the Bourbon Heraldry Institute of Segovia. The municipal flag is square and divided into three vertical stripes. The central stripe is red with the municipal coat of arms in the middle. The two other stripes are made of an "ajedrezado" with 15 pieces, 8 being white and the 7 other being blue.

The coat of arms - and therefore the flag - shows the main symbols of the municipality, that is the medieval castle, the bridge, the river Tormes and the "ajedrezado" of the seignioral house, which dominates the area.

For the moment, five flags have been manufactured, to be hoisted over the public buildings. Other flags should be manufactured later to be placed in the meeting room of the municipal council.

The article has a small picture showing Mayoress Soledad Arana with the flag, partially furled. I don't know exactly (at all :-) what an "ajedrezado" is, it looks for me like a chequered mural decoration. Note that there is a crown over the shield, not mentioned in the article.
