Introduction

Val d'Aran (Aran Valley) is a comarca (Spanish subprovincial region) on the northwesternmost tip of Lleida province.

Santiago Dotor, 5 October 2001

Description

The officially adopted flag is in Vexil'Òc issue no. 4 [image here].

Jaume Ollé, 20 July 1998

A new flag was adopted in last [i.e. recent] years.

Jaume Ollé, 14 December 2000

I recently saw a documentary about the Occitan language in which they also spoke about Val d'Aran in Spain, the only region where the language is official, together with Spanish and Catalan. One of the people interviewed spoke with a flag in the background. The flag was red with an occitan cross in yellow with nearly the height of the flag (at least in the bottom — the flag was folded). The cross was incomplete, that is, its lines where interrupted in the center as if there was there a ciscle of the background colour. Also there was a Spanish-style arms (only shield and crown). (...) The shield (...) was divided in two areas of almost equal height. The chief was white with a black key placed horizontally; below it had vertical red and yellow bars.

The Flag Bulletin reported the flag of Aran, a territory administered by Catalonia, but inhabited by the Aranese Gascon people (...). The flag is horizontal blue, white and green. (...) Last year on 11 September (regional feast of Catalonia), many Catalan flags were displayed on the balconies and in the windows of Vielha (the Aran capital), but not the supposed autonomist flag. It is possible that this flag exists, but is supported by a small minority. The regional logo-flag of Aran (with inscription in Aranese) is available on my pages (image here). This logo is used sometimes like a flag but really the official regional flag isn't approved yet.

Jaume Ollé, 28 January 1996

This is not the flag of Aran, but only an official proposal never adopted..
