Coat-of-Arms

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama, the historical coat-of-arms [meaning there is no known adoption date, though with date 1872] is:

Aguila bicéfala en sable, con escudo cuartelado portando las armas de Castilla, León y Granada. Castillos en oro, en campo de gules y leones rampantes bermejos, coronados en campo de plata, alternados. Timbrado por la corona imperial, rematada por el mundo y la cruz; rodeando el escudo aparece un Toisón de oro. A uno y otro lado las columnas de Hércules sobre dos ondas de azur, coronadas asimismo con corona imperial y la leyenda "Plus Ultra". Todo ello en campo de sinople.
