Description

Bermeo's flag is used so much in the proportion 2:3 like in 1:2. Though it is adopted by the population, it is not regulated officially.

Aingeru Astui Zarraga, 04 Feb 2002

Basque vexillologist Aingeru Astui Zarraga reports the final approval of the flag of Bermeo on 28th April 2004, published in the Boletín Oficial de Vizcaya / Bizkaiko Aldizkari Ofiziala no. 90 of 13th May 2004 (today). Original text, from http://www.bizkaia.net:

The flag is vertically striped red-white, ratio 1:2. Red is specified as Pantone 186C, approx. RGB 211:4:54; the nearest browser-safe shade is 204:0:51 used in the above image.

Santiago Dotor, 13 May 2004

The flag of Bermeo is rectangular; proportion 1:2. It will be divided vertically in two halves, the hoist half red (PANTONE 186C) and the other one white. The flag of Bermeo is defined and approved thus definitively in the Plenary session of the City council of 28 of April of 2004.

Aingeru Astui Zarraga, 27 Sep 2004

The flag of the municipality of Bermeo (Biscay) has been definitively approved by the General Council of Biscay Province last November 30th. It is, possibly, the only flag approved by unanimity in this parliament, since the PP party has objected systematically to the approval of new flags.

At the present time, three standards exist in the City council:

  • the oldest one (possibly of the XIX cent.) in disuse, displayed in a cabinet
  • one that takes part in parades of the municipal retinue, and presides the Assembly hall, made at the beginning of the 1980s.
  • another one, also in disuse in spite of being the most modern (of it does few years), that is in the office of the Mayor.
In the Assembly hall of the City council of Bermeo the municipal standard is in the right side, and the Basque and the City flags are together in the left side.

The Guidon will be red crimson dark, proportions 1:1, with the arms of the City centered by both faces. The height of the shield will be the half of the height of the guidon, with the corresponding width, without outer adornments. The municipal guidon replaces the standard in the places where it is not advisable to exhibit. It is established that it is hoisted on the ship on which the City council is embarked to go to Izaro island on St. Mary Magdalen's day, and on Saint John of Gaztelugatxe island on the day of San Juan (29 of August).
