Origins and Use

The old maritime province flag of Mataró was adopted some years ago by the municipality of Mataró (capital of the comarca or district of Maresme) but the Catalan government did not approve it because it is out of the legal rules for municipal flags (Catalan municipal flags must have one or several colours from the arms, but cannot have colours that are not in the arms). Despite that, the municipality uses the flag normally, without official status (apart from the city council's approval itself).

Mataró is my town, and it has another very important flag, that of Les Santes ["The Holy Women"].
