The municipality of Villanueva de Gómez (143 inhabitants in 2005; 2,100 ha) is located 30 km north of Ávila. The population of the village remained stable during the first half of the 20th century (594 in 1960 vs. 692 in 1900) and dropped dramatically later (436 in 1970, 242 in 1991).

On 25 January 2009, "Ávila Digital" reported the adoption of the municipal flag and arms of Villanueva de Gómez and their publication in the official gazette of the Province of Ávila. The flag is in proportions 2:3, vertically divided blue-green (1:2). The blue field is charged with a pair of white scissors with two yellow loom weights placed vertically. The green field is charged with the arms of the Dávila de San Román y Villanueva family, "Or six bezants azure placed 2, 2 and 2", and a sword argent.

The coat of arms is of Spanish shape, "Vert, an arm armed or holding a sword argent, an escutcheon Dávila de San Román y Villanueva, a chief azure a pair of scissors argent two weights or. The shield crowned by the Royal Spanish crown".
